Dobri ljudi, dobrodošli na ovo virtuelno putovanje!
Dolce-far-niente sam prvi put susreo igrajući briškule sa mojim starim na terasi koja je gledala na Kvarner. Bilo je kasno poslepodne, teška toplota koju ni malo maestrala nije moglo da razbije. Takvih dana bilo je malo, u poređenju sa današnjim... A onda mi se mnogo godina kasnije rec urezala u pamcenje na samom jugu Italije, u okolini Barija. Bila to jedna od onih reci koju nije trebalo prevoditi.
Poreklo izraza inače nije sigurno. Neki tvrde da potiče od Plinija, za druge ovo je Ciceronov izraz, a možda ga je prvi naslutio Tacit u delu ’Agricola’. U svakom slucaju, dolcefarniente ne označava samo plandovanje. Znači raditi nešto za svoj gušt. Znači ustati u cik zore da bi se 'išlo u ribe'. Znači šmirglati drvenu barku pod Suncem koje prži. Znači dati takvo ime svojoj barci.
U svakom slučaju, to je polazište mog, našeg putovanja. Jer, ’pristupajući Mediteranu odabiremo najprije polazište: obalu ili prizor, luku ili događaj, plovidbu ili priču. Kasnije postaje manje važno odakle smo krenuli, a više dokle smo stigli: što smo i kako vidjeli’ (Matvejević, Mediteranski brevijar). I sa kim smo sve to podelili, dodao bih. To u stvari sve vreme valjda i hoću da vam kazem. Voleo bih da sa mnom krenete na ovu virtuelnu plovidbu đardinima Mediterana, skrivenim lučicama, starim receptima, zaboravljenim pričama, ljudima i običajima koje treba pažljivo otkriti ... Poput mora koje se krije na kraju ovog drvoreda na slici, na zapadnoj punti Dugog otoka, na Velom ratu.
